The KIBIS supports and promotes self-help work in the Hanover region. It has existed in its current form since 1988 and was created through the merger of the two contact points KIBIS and KISS. The contact point is sponsored by PAREITISCHE HANNOVER, but mediates and advises across sponsors.

The KIBIS sees itself as an "intermediary agency" for those seeking advice on the one hand and self-help groups offering help on the other. There are currently around 600 self-help associations in the region that receive advice and support from KIBIS in various ways and intensities.
In the concrete cooperation with the individual self-help groups, KIBIS accepts their autonomous status and their individual working methods. Only at the request of the individual groups does KIBIS advise in difficult conflict situations or provide support in some other way. In order to give the representatives of self-help the opportunity for targeted further training or simply to be able to process the experiences made in self-help better, KIBIS offers seminars or supervision sessions at irregular intervals.
