Guide: What to do after an attack

Get yourself to safety
Your safety comes first! Try to escape the situation and seek shelter.

Ask for help
Ask others for help and speak to witnesses to the incident.

Document the incident
Photograph your injuries, the crime scene, and any surrounding objects (e.g., rocks, broken glass, bottles, stickers, clothing). Leave everything and do not change anything at the scene of the crime!

go to the doctor
Have yourself examined and ask the doctor to document any injuries. In an emergency, treatment is also possible without an insurance card.

Don't stay alone
Tell your family and friends what happened to you. It's not your fault and you don't have to be ashamed of it. Don't be left alone with your feelings and let them support you.

Write a memory log

    • Write down any reminders of the incident:
    • When and where did it happen?
    • What exactly happened? What happened afterwards?
    • How many people were involved? What did these look like?
    • What injuries and damages are there?
    • Who were the witnesses and what did they see?

You can inform the police
It is your decision whether you wish to involve the police. You can call the police directly to the crime scene or go to the police later and report the incident. You don't have to go to the police alone. You can be accompanied by family and friends or employees of local counseling centers. If you want to testify, you have the right to an interpreter. Contact with the police has no negative impact on your stay in Germany.
