Integration pilots work to support the integration process in Hanover. The "Integration Pilots" project was created in 2007 based on the Local integration plan the state capital Hanover.

The integration guides are involved in different fields and in a variety of ways. For example, they help newcomers to orient themselves in an environment that is foreign to them, or they support migrants who have been living here for a long time or their children with language, school and social integration. A significant proportion of the pilots themselves have an immigrant background.

The integration guides work on a voluntary basis through the cooperation partners and the volunteer center in Hanover as well as through the connection to the district-oriented integration and orientation courses of the adult education center in Hanover.

Integration guides can be requested from the coordination center of counseling centers, associations, municipal institutions, youth welfare offices, etc.

Qualification in the community college
Training and cooperation by and with citizens are modified again and again according to personal and local intercultural needs.

In the basic module with 12 building blocks, social and communicative skills for intercultural action are acquired and knowledge of integration processes and processes is imparted.

Invited experts will speak and discuss with the participants. The following topics are covered in 48 lessons:

  • Communication
  • prejudice awareness
  • Intercultural Competence
  • the immigration process
  • conditions of immigration
  • negotiation processes
  • information gathering

The concept supports the independent, responsible development of skills of the guides. They develop their own profile and determine their fields of application.

Further qualification ideas and sustainability suggestions from this group are taken up and condensed into new concepts. At the end of the qualification, the integration guides receive their certificate and can be employed.

Pilots meet regularly on the first Tuesday of the month for a plenary session to find out about relevant fields of application and to exchange experiences. The guides are accompanied and trained by the VHS educationally and organizationally. Sustainability and networking have priority.
